Axolotl (walking Fish) - Collecta
The Axolotl, a unique type of salamander, is notable for its extraordinary ability to regenerate. Native to the freshwater lakes and canals of Mexico, this amphibian has the rare capability to fully regrow entire lost appendages, including limbs, tail, and even parts of its heart and brain.
Unlike most amphibians, Axolotls spend their entire lives in water and retain their larval features into adulthood, a trait known as neoteny. This means they keep their gills and do not undergo the typical transformation into a terrestrial adult form.
Their distinctive appearance, including a wide head, lidless eyes, and feathery gill stalks, along with their regenerative abilities, make them a subject of significant scientific interest in the fields of regeneration and developmental biology.
